Your shit is magical!

Eight nights. Three nights more than I first booked. The goal was to settle down and relax in a chill environment before hopping into the next adventures. And oh boy have I not taken it easy. I’ve been twice on a short walk along the dirt road and spent one morning and -one afternoon outside the property lines. Global has had everything I needed to keep myself happy.
Soon starts the photo dump. I feel bad for not paying much attention when taking the pictures and for not editing them afterward. Reality often has multiple sides, and this approach helps me to reduce the built-in voice telling that image content should present something beautiful or remarkable. I want to believe that through these fastly taken snapshots also the interpreter would pay more attention to the entirety and imagine how things could look in real life. Photos might tell more than a thousand words, but their stories are shown only one nanosecond from a tightly narrowed perspective.
- Welcome to Global Tribe, ‘a fun & conscious ecovillage for all of us who care’. Located a little off-grid in (Spain) Andalusia; by car, 1 hour from Seville, 10 minutes from Almonte, and 20 minutes from El Rocio.
- Tipis can be booked for 20€ per night. They provide privacy and a unique experience. The inside temperature is relatively easily affected by the surrounding weather.
- The guesthouse is run wholly by currently seven volunteers. Guesthouse ‘shifts’ are 9-15 and 15-21. This duty includes f.ex receiving guests, giving them a tour of the place and explaining different operating models, and answering phone and emails.
- Shared indoor accommodation costs 10€ per night. Space has four bunk beds and ten places on the floor. It is not high season inland, so we had at most five people sharing the space. The area was comfortably mosquito and fly-free, but some (chill) ants had to be tolerated.
- Shared accommodation from the outside. To help reforestation, anyone can adopt a tree in their name for 20€. The peach tree in front of the accommodation is adopted by Sara.
- Sleeping in own or rented tent is also possible. To respect others’ privacy, I didn’t take a picture of anyone’s caravan/camper van, but they are also very regular guests.
- Guests can book different activities from horse riding to yoga. For free, the property offers a volleyball field, trampoline, slackline, and a small ‘library.’ If you ask, everyone is welcome to help with goji berry picking. It’s boring, but what the heck can’t do that in Finland.
- One volunteer is always responsible for the Boutique of Global. All profits go to the ecovillage. All the products in the Boutique are marketed to be handmade and organic. There is also a small kiosk with snacks etc, but that is a Guesthouse duty since it works under the guest tab.
- ‘Main stage’ can be used for different activities from healing circles to meditation. It is one of the rare areas with flooring. There are some fans available, but no air-conditioned spaces. Shade is a critical factor in maintaining comfort.
- The area’s only traditional building provides food- and storage spaces for volunteers and is the home of the owner couple, Cynthia and JJ.
- Two dogs and multiple cats are wandering around the area freely, but are not allowed inside the accommodations. Chickens have their own space a little farther from the accommodations. Visiting animals as well are welcome.
- Goji field provided fresh superfood berries for every meal. One field is dedicated to them, and they are the Global’s No. 1 agricultural product.
- The plants also flourished outside the goji field. The volunteers made extensive use of the gardens when cooking, which was of course great.
- These items are not necessarily in active use, but rather waiting to be reused.
- Sanitary areas included one outdoor shower, two closed showers, and three bio-degradable bathrooms. The amount of hot water was worrying me in the beginning, but I didn’t counter any lack of it. Areas were kept clean, and natural biodegradable soap was provided by Global.
- Biodegradable toilets seem to be a crown of sorrow when it comes to customer satisfaction. Unfortunately, I couldn’t interview JJ about what happens in these toilets behind the scenes. But from the user’s perspective, I have never seen as comfy bio-toilet; there was no need to add extra substances as a normal user, no visual sight to the excrement, and a normal sitting height and feel.
- Detailed information about the toilet was written interestingly. With it, the person also assures that they are handling their businesses correctly.
- Back to other stuff: The area is full of different lounging areas with varying shade amounts.
- All food was vegetarian and cooked by the volunteers. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner cost 5€ per meal.
- The outdoor kitchen was located near the house, but relocation and rebuilding it was already in planning. The kitchen was mostly a ‘volunteers only’ area.
- A lot of attention was given to recycling. The weekly calendar of the volunteers can be seen above the trash.
- Eating today’s list works the old-fashioned way by ticking the box after your name. Registration for lunch and dinner needs to be done three hours before the meal.
- For breakfast, a portion of porridge or egg and bread. And of course coffee or tea. Food is made to order and served wherever you want.
- The atmosphere was very relaxed and offered space for calmness and contemplation.

Nice that someone is interested!
I like to think that maybe one day I’m returning to these blog posts to find some almost forgotten information and be glad that I have collected these memories and learnings together. At least the toilet system is something that I don’t want to be carrying as a memory weight, but someday the information might become handy.
