Before reflecting on my learning on this book I would like to say that this is the first time ever that I have read a business book. In my opinion it turned out to be more interesting than I anticipated. It also came as a surprise that the book did not consist of the old, present or future economy, nor did it have anything to do with companies and businesses per se. After reading the first few chapters it became clearer, Good to Great is about how to take a good organization and turn it into one that produces sustained great results, using whatever definition of results best applies for one’s organization.

Leadership, an essential skill in all fields no matter what case it is. I thought leadership in business would be different though. In business sense I thought that a good leader is the one that speaks the most and is strict as well. But in fact I was shocked to hear what Jim Collins had discovered what kind of leadership turns a good company into a great one. Qualities of business leaders that have great companies: self-effacing, quiet, reserved and shy people are mostly the ones who lead into greatness.

It happened to be so that good-to-great leaders always had a vision and strategy. I found it interesting that great leaders usually got rid of the wrong people without warning. Great leaders did only not just get the right people for the company, but placed the right people in the right places. That’s one crucial fact that makes most leaders great. At this point I realised that because in Proakatemia we are “equal” and because of this we choose our right places by ourselves so this cannot be implemented in our company but it is definitely something to take into consideration in the future when one might create a own company and lead it.

I learned that confronting brutal facts in business life happens frequently and that it is crucial never to lose faith. Every company faces countless of tuff times during their lifetime but by maintaining faith a company can prevail in the end, regardless of the difficulties. This didn’t seem that mind-blowing in my opinion that is why it comes to the next part, discipline. But what is discipline in a company I thought to myself. All companies are different from both outside and inside but this book used a good term called culture. Companies consist of different cultures within them. Culture of discipline is something most companies seemed to lack. Companies don’t need hierarchy when you have disciplined people. When your thoughts and actions are disciplined you avoid bureaucracy and excessive controls as well, and by combining them with a culture of disciplined people a company saves trouble and time resulting in better performance.

Every week there are situations where I disagree with my business partner. Discipline is something I need myself and the ability to control it. Because of this I can think again and we can both come to a better conclusion.

The role of technology in companies, it seemed to be so that good leaders thought differently about technology. They never used technology as the primary means of transformation and acceleration of processes. Great leaders are pioneers in the application of carefully selected technologies. This thought me that technology itself is never a primary, root cause of either greatness or ever decline.

Even if think of the clients that we have made, I’m sure that most of them admire our webpages thanks to wix and its technology that is has provided. Because of this it is easier to make quality looking webpages for both the entrepreneur and customer. A solid editing platform to make the experience for the customer on our website even more memorable.

This book consisted of interesting and different kinds of aspects on how to make something already good to something even better. There were many good points which got me thinking more outside the box as well as everyday things that are usually in sight but never taken into accurate consideration.
