“Burnout occurs when your body and mind can no longer keep up with the tasks you demand of them.” – Del Suggs

Burnout was the topic of our last paja and in this essay I am reflecting on it.

Topic for me has never been personal, but I have witnessed few times a close one having it.

You could say as an entrepreneur that the business is your baby, you feed it, you nurse it and you make the best for it. You give all the time you have to your small baby.

When things get hectic and you must put all of your energy in to the work in order to achieve something great, it might take a bit too much from yourself. This is when you drop sports, eating and basically forget all of the basic functions a person needs in order to survive. This is when you know you have crossed the line. You must stop. If you don’t, the worst case scenario will be burnout. Who will take care of your baby then?  Always think about the future, don’t focus too much on what is happening now. Remember to see the big picture.

Burnout is a condition of extreme and protracted stress-related emotional, bodily, and mental depletion. It happens when you experience emotional exhaustion, overwhelm, and an inability to handle ongoing expectations. You start to lose the enthusiasm and drive that initially motivated you to accept a particular role as the stress mounts.

You become less productive and less energetic as a result of burnout, which also makes you feel more hopeless, cynical, and resentful. You can eventually feel as though you have nothing more to contribute.

Burnout has a detrimental impact on all aspect of life, including your home, job, and social life. Burnout can also alter your body over time, making you more susceptible to ailments like the flu and the common cold.

If you feel these symptoms , you might need to slow down in order to not go down the road to burning out:

-Every day is unpleasant.

-The thought of caring about your job or personal life seems completely pointless.

-You constantly feel worn out.

-You spend the most of your day doing things that are either mind-numbingly boring or overwhelming.

-You believe that nothing you do is worthwhile or valued.

Remember to firstly take care of yourself. Nothing else matters in the end. If you are not well, your baby wont be well either.
