Introduction

This is not, Do this to succeed, but rather, how do you feel about it and does it make you think in a different way?

Many people would argue that this is in no way predictable, including myself, but there are skills and rules that will increase your chances of success.

Richard St. John, author of 8 traits successful people have in common: 8 to be great is the speaker. In this book, he goes into greater detail about the people he has interviewed, which range from astronauts to people like Jeff Bezos.

What leads to success?

Richard St. John was on a plane when a high schooler asked him what factors contribute to success, but he didn’t know how to respond.

St. John conducted 500 interviews in order to reach this conclusion.

– First of them is passion “I’m driven by my passion” Freeman Thomas.

Many of us chose entrepreneurship because we didn’t want to do something we didn’t enjoy or care about. Will Shu, the founder of Deliveroo, stated in a podcast that doing your passion as a job does not feel like work, and that any business founder will have doubts about whether to continue or not, and that passion makes them more likely to continue. (Shu, The Diary Of A CEO. read on 24.3.2023. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-Mk8Yq6ptxI&t=4567s&ab_channel=TheDiaryOfACEO).

– The second is work “its all hard work. Nothing comes easily. But I have a lot of fun” Rupert Murdoch.

We entrepreneurs have ingrained this in our hearts, resulting in the hustle culture, which is fantastic, but you must remember that there are more important things in life than work/money. Entrepreneurship is freedom for me, but it requires hard work first. Balancing hard work is mandatory. Stop creating a job for yourself.

– The third is Good “to be successful put your nose down in something and get damn good at it.“ Alex Garden.

To earn money and build something bigger, you must provide value. You must concentrate on one topic so that you can become an expert in it and earn money from it.

-The forth is Focus “I think it all has to do with focusing yourself to one thing.” Norman Jewison .

For instance, starting three businesses simultaneously would be a waste of time and drive you insane. The same applies to those who don’t own a business, if you have too many concerns, you’ll put things off, waste time worrying about them, and never improve at anything. Instead, you’ll just be mediocre at everything.

-The fifth is Push “push yourself. Physically, mentally, you got to push, push, push.” David Gallo. You have got to push through shyness and self-doubt. St. John says its not always easy to push yourself but that’s why they invented mothers. “My mother pushed me.” Frank Gehry

-The sixth is to serve “it was privilege to serve as a doctor.” Sherwin Nuland. Millionaires serve others something of value.

Businesses must be able to serve; otherwise, they have very little chance of being successful. Serving can take many different forms, such as providing you with a service, a product, connections to the relevant individuals, etc.

-The seventh is ideas “I had an idea found the first micro commuter software company” Bill Gates. Ideas are generated when you listen, observe, be curious, ask questions, problem solve and make connections.

The eighth is to persist “Persistence is the number on reason for our success.” Joe Kraus. St. John Sayed you have to persist through CRAPS, Criticism, Rejection, Assholes and Pressure.

Conclusion

At this point, I realized that in order to have a good Ted talk/speech, you must tell jokes and make people laugh. When you make people laugh, they like you more, which makes the listeners more engaged and the talk more enjoyable.

After reading these rules, I realized they were all interconnected. They are, in fact, linked to each other, as I discovered.

Find a passion and work hard on it, pick a topic and become the best you can be at it, keep working hard and never give up, create new ideas using the CRRAP Method, and the most important rule for me is to add value to the lives of others which is critical for business.

Is this true in all cases? So, let’s put it to the test: are these the 8 words for successful leadership? Yes and no, because they are such broad words, you can basically use them in any situation, but to be more specific, these are not the eight words for leadership, but they are a part of it.

Even if you tried, you would not be able to succeed without these words; if you do not push yourself, you will never reach your goal. It would be difficult for you to create value if you did not serve.

In my point of view, as a Muslim I have been told to do the best that I can at my job and to master it, this aligns with the Rule. There are a lot of people that are highly skilled and persistent but aren’t successful in their own eyes, it all ends up on your thinking, but that’s more of a philosophical questioning.
